Key points of trading BTCUSD Quarterly contracts

  • The base currency is BTC, not USDT; the traded pair is BTC-USD; the minimum lot size is 100 USD;
    Orders are calculated in lots; when opening a long position, you effectively buy BTC for BTC; even with 1x leverage, the position has a liquidation price; when opening such a long, the exchange locks collateral in BTC at the current rate, so a 1x long is not equivalent to simply holding BTC; this is a key feature, followed by technical details;

  • Based on the above, all volume calculations change: volumes in the order book and trade volumes are displayed in lots, while the terminal converts them into USDT. Order volumes are shown in lots, as on the exchange; the balance is shown in BTC, and the order size is also set in BTC.

This is not a terminal error, but a consequence of balance calculations in BTC.

The lower the contract price, the more BTC is required as collateral to place an order. Accordingly, when the price decreases, the maximum possible position size that can be opened with the available balance also decreases.
